In 2010 kdA was part of a multi-architect team designing and developing the international luxury brand W Hotels Worldwide Hollywood location. kdA provided interior design services for the lobbies, common areas, residences, and most visibly the rooftop pools and cabanas.

Primarily tasked with maintaining a connection to the W’s established identity, kdA chose to emphasis warm materials, flexibility, and natural light. Design on the residences were intentionally kept spare, while in the lobby custom-cut Douglas Fir was wrapped around the ceiling, cascading down the walls in a fluid wave, an effect similar to rippling fabric.

The custom-designed canopy that winds along the pool is a prefabricated sunshade supported by the heavy metal staples that make up the primary structure of the building, naturally designed to protect poolside guests from sun and dampen the wind. Other rooftop elements include pool, exercise room, event bar and small private cabanas.

kdA pursued a landscape strategy focused on native Los Angeles grass and greens, fulfilling on the design brief to create a new standard in Southern California hospitality and luxury.
